Character Concept Art

Here's a conceptual art for my character design.

Character References

For my character design, I decided to create a turtle. The software of choice for this project will Adobe Illustrator. My goal is to create a character made primarily with simple shapes and lines. All examples above used simple shapes and lines to create characters with personality. Facial features (eyes, mouth, head shape) and body gesture were also used to create the personality of the character.

Artist of today. 2-23-2012

Daniel Maidman was born in 1975 in Toronto, Canada. He's an illustrator who specializes in life drawing. His work reminds me of the old masters of Renaissance. This particular artwork, "Blue Leah", reminds me Rembrandt. Rembrandt is known as a master of portraits. Paintings done by  Rembrandt captures the mood of the subject he paints. Another trait of Rembrandt  artwork is the strong sense of ciaroscuro, also known as dark and light values. The effective lighting of "Blue Leah" by Daniel Maidman resembles the high contrast lighting by Rembrandt. Daniel also was able to pick the right colors to illustrate the flesh tones of the subject to be more realistic.
